What this job involves: The Data Center Break/Fix Technician I is an entry-level technical support role responsible for performing basic diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance of server and network hardware within a data center environment. Working under the guidance of senior technicians and team leads, you'll maintain system uptime by responding to hardware incidents, replacing faulty components, documenting service activities, and supporting hardware installation while following established protocols and procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent with basic technical aptitude and interest in IT hardware
  • Ability to follow detailed procedures, runbooks, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) accurately
  • Physical capability to lift equipment, work in confined spaces, and stand for extended periods in data center environments
  • Basic understanding of computer hardware components including servers, storage devices, and networking equipment
  • Strong attention to detail for documentation and inventory management tasks
  • Ability to work within SLA timelines and respond appropriately to urgent hardware incidents
  • Willingness to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, and on-call rotations as needed

Nice To Haves

  • T echnical certification such as CompTIA A+ or equivalent hardware fundamentals training
  • Previous experience in IT support, electronics repair, or technical troubleshooting roles
  • Basic familiarity with ticketing systems and asset management tools
  • Knowledge of data center environments and standard safety protocols
  • Understanding of basic networking concepts and server architecture
  • Experience with hand tools and basic electrical safety practices
  • Strong communication skills for coordinating with team members and documenting technical activities

Responsibilities

  • Perform physical diagnostics and replace hardware components including memory, hard drives, network cards, and power supplies following provided runbooks and SOPs
  • Respond to hardware incident tickets in the ITSM system within SLA timelines and escalate complex issues to senior technicians or vendor support
  • Document all interventions, component swaps, and serial number changes in asset management tools while supporting inventory management processes
  • Assist with server racking, cabling, labeling, and initial power-up tests for new equipment installations
  • Perform basic maintenance tasks such as reseating cables, cleaning filters, and inspecting racks for optimal operation
  • Support deployment, maintenance, and decommissioning efforts while escorting vendors as
  • Follow all physical security protocols for accessing data halls and managing hardware in compliance with facility requirements
