About The Position

Sev1Tech is seeking a Senior Data Center Operations Engineer to support our program with the U.S. Coast Guard. This will be located in Kearneysville, WV and will be an onsite position. Responsible for overseeing, optimizing, and maintaining all aspects of the organization's data center infrastructure to ensure maximum uptime, operational integrity, and compliance with Coast Guard and DoD standards. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, managing critical facility systems, and driving continuous improvement initiatives across the data center environment.

Requirements

  • High School with 9+ years (or commensurate experience)
  • Clearance: Active Secret clearance
  • Ability to obtain the following certifications within 6 months: DoD 8570 IAT Level II (e.g., Security+ CE, CySA+)
  • Advanced knowledge of UPS systems, power distribution, cooling systems, and electrical safety procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex data center environments, including monitoring, preventive maintenance, and incident response.
  • Expert-level copper (RJ45) and fiber optic termination, testing, and standards compliance.
  • Experience with PowerShell, Bash, and/or Python to automate operational tasks, logging, or monitoring workflows.
  • Hands-on experience with Data Center Infrastructure Management tools and environmental monitoring platforms.
  • Skilled in racking, stacking, cable management, and designing efficient physical layouts.
  • Possess Network+ (or equivalent/higher certification).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting DoD or U.S. Coast Guard environments
  • Relevant certifications such as Azure, AWS, or infrastructure‑related credentials
  • Experience working directly with government leadership or senior military officials
  • Background in systems engineering, networking, or facilities management
  • Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and time‑management skills
  • Cloud platform familiarity, including hybrid/cloud‑based infrastructure concepts

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily operations of critical facility systems including HVAC, UPS, PDU, generators, and environmental monitoring.
  • Conduct advanced troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, and remediation for power, cooling, hardware, and facility issues.
  • Oversee and perform server hardware installations, structured cabling (copper & fiber), labeling, and rack layout/design.
  • Develop, refine, and enforce data center SOPs, security procedures, and change‑control processes.
  • Manage vendor activities, escorting, and access control to ensure compliance with physical security requirements.
  • Maintain accurate DCIM records, asset inventories, and configuration documentation to support audits and lifecycle management.
  • Provide senior‑level support during outages, maintenance windows, load transfers, and emergency responses.
  • Mentor junior technicians and guide work prioritization, safety practices, and operational readiness.
  • Partner with USCG, Facilities, and engineering teams to plan and validate infrastructure upgrades, capacity expansion, and modernization efforts.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies, monitoring tools, and operational improvements to strengthen system resilience.
