About The Position

The Data Center Facility Operator reports to the Data Center Facility Manager within IT Services. This role is primarily responsible for monitoring critical data center infrastructure, including environmental systems such as power and cooling, to ensure uninterrupted operations. The Operator will identify and escalate faults or incidents to appropriate service personnel as necessary. In addition, the Operator will act as a central dispatcher during issues affecting campus systems and services, managing incoming trouble tickets, chat communications, and phone calls. The Operator is responsible for triaging and forwarding these issues to the appropriate technical staff. Additional duties include: Maintaining accurate security and shift logs. Updating procedural and operational documentation. Monitoring data center security cameras. Responding to Data Center Help Desk calls. Supporting other data center operations as needed. Regular, reliable and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Requirements

  • The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma
  • At least one year of experience in a specialized or related area applicable to work performed
  • Experience working in a secure environment
  • Experience and communication skills needed to relay information accurately
  • Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming
  • Knowledge of compiling, coding, categorizing, calculating, tabulating, auditing, or verifying information or data
  • Ability to analyze information and evaluate results, to choose the best solution and solve problems
  • Ability to enter, transcribe, record, store, or maintain information in written or electronic/magnetic form

Nice To Haves

  • The formal education equivalent of an associate's degree in computer science, mathematics, or a related field OR Completion of technical training in computer science, data processing, or a related field acquired from a vocational, military or industrial setting
  • At least one year of experience in computer support
