About The Position
The Data Center Facilities Technician II position at Google involves working within a team that designs and operates some of the most sophisticated electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and HVAC systems in the world. As a Facilities Technician, you will be responsible for operating, monitoring, and supporting the physical conditions of data center facilities. This role requires a strong understanding of mechanical systems, particularly in the context of data centers, where you will be involved in the heating and cooling of air and water, managing power supply, generators, UPS systems, and electrical distribution and control systems. Your duties will include inspecting, maintaining, and repairing various data center systems, such as piping and non-critical electrical or mechanical components. You will also be expected to develop creative approaches to reduce operational costs while improving overall data center efficiency. Ensuring that environmental and safety standards are consistently met is a critical part of your role, as is the ability to quickly identify problems and make necessary repairs. In emergency situations or abnormal conditions, you will manage data center performance issues and outages to minimize recovery time from failures. The position requires the ability to work non-standard hours and shifts, reflecting the operational needs of a data center environment. You will be part of a diverse, upbeat, and creative team of engineers committed to building and operating powerful data centers. This role not only demands technical expertise but also effective communication skills, particularly when interacting with contractors performing maintenance or upgrades on data center systems.
