About The Position

Join our dynamic team and become a critical technical leader who ensures the heartbeat of our global infrastructure remains strong and resilient. In this pivotal role, you'll be the guardian of our data center operations, driving reliability and performance while optimizing operational efficiency across complex technical environments. Data Center Facility Manger role acts as Amazon’s front line when it comes to hands-on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting. They will maintain, operate, and troubleshoot mission-critical data center facility equipment including electrical support equipment such as stand-by diesel generators and related fuel systems, 3 phase electrical systems that include but not limited to switchgear, UPS units, PDUs, and wet cell batteries and associated systems. Mechanical equipment includes CRAC units, centrifugal chillers, cooling towers/water chemical systems, air handlers and associated systems, pumps, and motors. Additional support equipment is included in the scope of the role which includes fire suppression systems, building automation systems, and general facilities equipment. AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. Requirements

  • 2+ years of people management and team development experience
  • 5+ years of engineering work managing large-scale services experience
  • Experience maintaining SLAs through the implementation of proactive issue detection and reporting
  • Experience operating a mission-critical team or product
  • High school or equivalent

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years of work in a management position with 5 or more direct reports experience
  • 5+ years of work in data centers with an emphasis on building and equipment operation experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • Knowledge of the electrical and mechanical systems involved in critical data center operations including systems such as feeders, transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, ATS units, PDU units, chillers, pumps, air handling units, and CRAC units
  • Experience in a management position with 5 or more direct reports
  • Experience in the operations and maintenance of Natural Gas Generators and Pipeline Systems

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of the data center's critical infrastructure. Ensure that all work performed within the space is done to high quality and without impact to internal/external customers
  • Oversee the safety, security, availability, quality, and performance of the team, while driving a positive customer experience across multiple shift schedules
  • Manage teams of 24x7 engineering technicians and Facility Managers in all facets of their career
  • Engage in improvement projects, often requiring reaching out to a variety of support teams, and drive them from conception to completion
  • Ensure staffing levels are maintained and grow with expansions
  • Be actively involved in ongoing construction activities
  • Coordinate daily with a multitude of third-party vendors ensuring adherence to contracted SLAs
  • Effectively and efficiently manage the operations budget and expenditures
