About The Position

Sabey Data Centers is seeking a Critical Facilities Engineer (internally titled Data Center Operations Engineer 1) to join their team in Austin (Round Rock), TX. This role offers an opportunity to support mission-critical infrastructure in a high-performance environment where reliability is paramount. Sabey Data Centers is a premier multi-tenant data center provider with over 20 years of expertise and three million square feet of mission-critical space, making them the largest privately-owned data center owner and operator in the United States. They build and operate their own facilities, offering employees an end-to-end view of the data center world. This position is an entry point for individuals early in their data center or facilities career, providing exposure to sophisticated infrastructure, real-time problem solving, and a clear path for advancement within the company. The engineer will be hands-on in the daily operations, supporting the maintenance, monitoring, and reliability of complex electrical, mechanical, and environmental systems that power high-availability environments for enterprise clients.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED required
Hands-on experience in mechanical, electrical, controls, or related technical field
Ability to learn and navigate facility systems, documentation, and procedures quickly
Strong attention to detail and commitment to operational excellence
Solid communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across teams
Problem-solving mindset with the ability to respond effectively under pressure
Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
Willingness to learn and leverage new technologies, including AI tools

Nice To Haves

Exposure to data center or critical facility environments preferred
Technical certifications or coursework in relevant disciplines a plus

Responsibilities

Perform routine and preventive maintenance on electrical and mechanical systems
Monitor facility conditions and respond to alarms and equipment issues
Support troubleshooting and assist in resolving equipment problems
Work alongside vendors and contractors during maintenance and repairs
Help maintain a safe, reliable, and high-performing facility
Performing routine inspections, maintenance, and cleaning of data center equipment to ensure optimal performance
Supporting preventive maintenance programs across electrical, mechanical, and control systems
Monitoring building management systems (BMS) and responding to alarms and environmental alerts
Troubleshooting equipment issues in collaboration with senior engineers and documenting resolutions
Participating in incident response and on-call rotations to support 24/7 facility operations
Assisting with inventory tracking and coordinating procurement of replacement parts
Supporting vendor and contractor activities during maintenance, repairs, and installations
Maintaining accurate documentation of equipment, systems, and incident reports
Contributing to disaster recovery and business continuity readiness efforts
Promoting and adhering to safety protocols and operational procedures
