About The Position

Our thirst for technology is a part of everything we do. The Data Center Engineering team takes the physical design of our data centers into the future. Our lab mirrors a research and development department -- cutting-edge strategies are born, tested and tested again. Along with a team of great minds, you take on complex topics like how we use power or how to run state-of-the-art, environmentally-friendly facilities. You're a visionary who optimizes for efficiencies and never stops seeking improvements -- even small changes that can make a huge impact. You generate ideas, communicate recommendations to senior-level executives and drive implementation alongside facilities technicians. With your technical expertise, you ensure compliance with codes and standards, develop infrastructure improvements and serve as an expert in your specialty (e.g., cooling, electrical). As a Data Center Engineer, you will bridge the gap between high-level architectural concepts and technical telecommunications reality. You will be responsible for the 'central nervous system' of our data centers, developing scalable, integrated solutions at both the product and top-level assembly stages. By ensuring our telecom infrastructure is robust and efficient, you will provide the foundational framework necessary for next-generation global deployment. In this role, you will work through multi-disciplinary projects and coordinate with structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, networking, and security trades. You will be tasked with rationalizing complex requirements into cohesive one-lines and rack layouts while guiding external consultants in creating construction-ready drawing packages. With a sharp eye for security requirements and a talent for managing shifting global priorities, you will play a vital role in the future of technology in our data centers. The AI and Infrastructure team is redefining what’s possible. We empower Google customers with breakthrough capabilities and insights by delivering AI and Infrastructure at unparalleled scale, efficiency, reliability and velocity. Our customers include Googlers, Google Cloud customers, and billions of Google users worldwide. We're the driving force behind Google's groundbreaking innovations, empowering the development of our cutting-edge AI models, delivering unparalleled computing power to global services, and providing the essential platforms that enable developers to build the future. From software to hardware our teams are shaping the future of world-leading hyperscale computing, with key teams working on the development of our TPUs, Vertex AI for Google Cloud, Google Global Networking, Data Center operations, systems research, and much more.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Architectural, or Structural Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3 years of experience in telecommunications system design or Information and Communications Technology (ICT) infrastructure within an industrial environment.
  • 3 years of experience in mission critical facility design and construction environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Architectural, or Structural Engineering, or Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) certification.
  • 5 years of experience as a key contributor to information and communications technology/telecommunications design for large-scale data centers.
  • Experience working with external vendors to review and validate telecommunications product specifications and converged network allocations.
  • Experience using Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD for 3D modeling of telecommunications rack/tray layouts and markup of vendor files.

Responsibilities

  • Rationalize network requirements into conceptual one-lines, rack/tray layouts, and product-level designs to ensure robust telecom infrastructure.
  • Partner with Architecture, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Controls, and Security teams to align telecom scope with top-level assembly and product development.
  • Utilize Autodesk Revit and other 3D software to develop detailed designs and provide internal/external alignment on infrastructure placement.
  • Review and validate construction-level drawings and specifications from external vendors to ensure compliance with program standards and best practices.
  • Provide technical engineering judgment for site-specific escalations where canonical designs require adjustments to meet local requirements.
