This ‘someone’ will plan, scope, and manage all aspects of data center engineering support initiatives as well as cross-effort dependencies and milestones. This person will interface closely with internal stakeholders, developers and maintain strong partner relationships. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong customer service orientation, continuous improvement and innovation mindset and can work well with teams and associates at various levels of the organization. This position requires a technical background and knowledge of operational data center support, application architecture, server engineering, and core Data Center solutions. In other words, this ‘someone’ needs to know how to Make Ship Happen. What You'll Be Up To: Participate in the design, configuration, and maintenance of server operating systems (Linux & Windows) Monitor and maintain multiple VMware vSphere environments, utilizing hyper-converged infrastructure Responsible for making operational decisions within all VMware environments associated with system/application activity and performance to ensure stability of the environment Ability to build out and maintain the physical data centers to include server racks, cooling, power, and cabling Develop on-prem DevOps practices and procedures for deploying and maintaining infrastructure and applications Automate routine tasks and reporting; including monitoring their effectiveness - work smarter, not harder Monitoring server performance and implementing changes necessary to maintain acceptable performance levels. Ensuring the availability and recoverability of all systems Responsible for building VM templates and servers as requested by the business and project leads In depth knowledge of core services with Active Directory: DNS/DHCP, domain controllers, MS PKI, DFS, OU structure, windows file services, GPO validation and design Strong working knowledge of the LDAP protocols and solutions Strong understanding and can offer other emergent technologies and open source solutions to optimize the data center operations Participates in developing plans for the desktop environment, considering capacity, and makes recommendations to leadership Provide guidance on best practices on how to maintain client operating system images, scripts, GPO’s, and application packages Strategize, plan, and implement routine patching across all servers (both Linus and Windows) and client workstations Monitor daily backups and resolve related issues to failed backups within hyperconverged infrastructure, VMware, and within HP StoreOnce Prepares and validates failover planning in case of disaster Participate in sprint planning sessions and provide estimations on technical implementation of future Agile based projects

Requirements

  • BA/BS or MS degree in computer science or engineering related fields
  • 4-7 years of experience maintaining Data Center infrastructure, servers, and end user operating systems
  • A minimum of 5+ years VMware enterprise level experience. Examples of enterprise experience may include: VMware HA or VMware Site Recovery Manager
  • Experience in configuring VMware clusters for ease of management, support of databases, UNIX and Windows OS
  • Experience with Veeam Backup and Recovery - enterprise level backup strategy and best practices
  • Experience with current enterprise SAN and backup technologies and experience with disaster recovery planning and implementation for storage systems is required
  • Experience managing MS Active Directory, LDAP, DNS, and DHCP servers in an enterprise environment
  • Experience with deploying new virtual environments from the ground up
  • Proven experience with on premise hyper converged solutions (HPE Simplivity preferred) and SAN storage solutions
  • Experience installing software, performing system maintenance and building servers
  • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, comfortable liaising with remote users and partners
  • Independently motivated with a “team player” mentality
  • Proficiency in change management methodologies, best practices, tools and techniques applied in internal initiatives
  • Knowledge of Agile methodology and the ability to work with agile teams to meet deliverables of the company based off this methodology
  • Detail-oriented, multi-tasking, self-directed, with the ability to prioritize tasks
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to travel up to 10 -25% depending on location

Nice To Haves

  • Experience managing IT projects in the cruise industry preferred
  • Knowledge of application architecture a plus
