About The Position

At DigitalOcean, Data Center Engineers play a crucial role in the success of our business. Our Data Center team is responsible for building, maintaining, and scaling the physical infrastructure that powers the DigitalOcean cloud—past, present, and future. From replacing a faulty drive to deploying an entire data center overseas, you'll have a hands-on role in ensuring our infrastructure runs efficiently. Requirements

  • Strong hands-on experience with various types of servers (including GPU), networking hardware, cabling, and infrastructure components
  • Knowledge of infrastructure cabling standards for both data and power
  • Basic proficiency with Linux OS, including command-line operations and troubleshooting
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to debug network, hardware, and OS issues efficiently
  • Excellent communication skills—both verbal and written—with a collaborative, customer-focused mindset
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-availability environment and respond to incidents proactively
  • Comfort with participating in an on-call rotation to support 24/7 operations
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to drive between locations as needed
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (10% - 15%)
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs

Responsibilities

  • Deploying, maintaining, and optimizing DigitalOcean's data center infrastructure
  • Racking, stacking, and cabling servers, power distribution units (PDUs), and network switches
  • Diagnosing and repairing hardware issues, performing upgrades, integrations, and rebuilds
  • Troubleshooting network connectivity, server hardware, and Linux OS-related issues
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to improve deployment efficiency, automation, and monitoring
  • Installing and configuring servers, switches, routers, and storage hardware
  • Managing hardware lifecycle, including RMA processing, shipping/receiving, and inventory tracking and auditing
  • Coordinating and tracking remote work requests to ensure seamless infrastructure operations
