Meta is seeking a Data Center Electrical Engineer experienced in the design and operations of critical facilities to become part of our Design Engineering team. Our data centers are the foundation upon which our software operates with efficient ease. Building and operating data centers the "right" way from the day they go live is synonymous with ensuring capacity availability and capital conservatism. The Meta Data Center Engineering team endeavors to be the benchmark of innovation for the data center industry and improve reliability, safety, and efficiency through innovative solutions, enabling Infrastructure teams to excel in achieving their goals.

  • Develop concepts for new data center infrastructure solutions focused on electrical power system technologies to reduce cost, improve reliability, efficiency, and speed to market
  • Lead all phases of design and development life cycle of electrical systems comprising concept design, prototyping and deployments
  • Collaborate with data center technology vendors, and consultants to remain current on data center electrical systems industry trends while influencing relevant technology development
  • Collaborate with external vendors to select, procure, and manage critical infrastructure equipment (e.g., Substation power transformers, Medium voltage GIS + AIS switchgear, low voltage transformers, solid state transformers, DC to DC converters, High ampacity busway etc.)
  • Manage the selection, procurement, and ongoing oversight of essential infrastructure equipment, which includes Substation power transformers, Medium voltage GIS + AIS switchgear, low voltage transformers, solid state transformers, DC to DC converters, etc., in partnership with external vendors
  • Lead the evaluation and adoption of new power technologies (e.g., fuel cells, advanced battery storage, microgrid controllers, onsite generation, solid state transformers) and develop specifications and implementation ready detailed design with vendors to enable capital investments
  • Drive required cross-functional collaboration with other teams including Hardware Engineering, Supply Chain, construction, commissioning, and data center operations
  • Travel to vendor/design partner locations and data center sites for verification/validation testing of electrical systems technologies and products
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum seven (7) years of hands-on design and development experience in mission critical electrical power components and systems including concept formulation, detailed design, modeling/simulation, prototyping, verification/validation testing and deployment for sustained operations
  • Cross-disciplinary knowledge of data center electrical systems design and operation: HV-MV-LV power distribution, backup power, energy storage, and onsite generation
  • Experience in designing and implementing protection & control systems
  • Experience in electrical power simulation software - e.g. ETAP, EMTP, PSSE, PSCAD, Easypower, Powerworld, Matlab Simulink etc
  • Experience with electric power industry standards, building codes and safety standards including NEC, NETA, ANSI, IEC, IEEE, NFPA, UL, UFC and UBC
  • Experienced troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Effective presentation and communication skills
  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering - MSEE
  • Professional Engineer registration
  • Experience in designing datacenters served with behind the meter (BTM) islanded onsite generation with integrated inverter based technologies such as battery energy storage systems (BESS), supercapacitors and other technologies
  • Experience in electrical power systems reliability modeling, statistical analyses, and data science techniques
  • Experience in server power supplies and power electronics related to AC/DC conversion and distribution at various voltage levels
  • Experience with high voltage transmission planning and working knowledge of FERC/NERC interconnection requirements for large load interconnections
