About The Position

Meta designs, builds, leases, and operates the most leading-edge and efficient data centers in the world. Locating, developing and managing this data center infrastructure the "right" way is synonymous with ensuring high uptime, capacity availability, flexibility and capital and operational cost efficiency. Facebook is seeking an experienced, organized, and collaborative Site Selection Manager to join the Data Center Site Selection team. We are seeking a Data Center Leasing Site Selection Manager who has extensive experience negotiating large, complex deals and an extensive knowledge of the legal agreements that accompany them. This position will report directly to the Head of the Datacenter Leasing Team within the broader Site Development team under the Infra Data Center group. Travel may be needed approximately 20% of the time to visit sites, as well as attend internal, agency, and stakeholder meetings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a directly related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Bachelor's degree in a business, planning, environmental management, science, or technical discipline
  • 5+ years of project management and/or site development experience
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and coordinate with internal staff, external consultants, vendors and other stakeholders
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in writing and verbally, tailoring messages to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to travel as needed (25% to 50%+ at times)
  • Skilled with using Excel, PowerPoint, GSuite, and project management software

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced technical degree, law degree or MBA
  • Experience with managing the development of large and complex infrastructure projects and collaborating with government authorities

Responsibilities

  • Drive the entitlements process (e.g., zoning, land use permitting) to ensure accurate and timely submission and execution of the necessary site entitlements and permits to meet project timelines
  • Lead the diligence and development process to vet prospective sites and assess site risks and opportunities by analyzing regional and site - specific information pertaining to (i) permitting and land use data (ii) information regarding federal, state and local taxes and incentives (iii) data on energy (including renewable energy), water and wastewater availability and cost (iv) network connectivity (v) natural hazard, floodplain and climatological data (vi) legal, physical risk and financial implications
  • Take the lead role in organizing communications by creating scalable processes with and tracking progress towards on-time delivery of projects by key internal and external stakeholders in support of the site selection effort, including capacity planning, data center design and construction, external consulting partners, network engineering, legal, tax, policy and finance
  • Work with Site Selection Manager and other key project team members to ensure alignment among all internal stakeholders and to find smart ways to overcome obstacles in the site development process
  • Support the preparation of project recommendations for presentation to management for approval
  • Support the development of Meta's near and long-term data center location and leased portfolio strategy
  • Support a portfolio of existing sites under construction or in operations to facilitate on time and quality delivery and development of the site that meets permit requirements and local expectations
  • Track and monitor ongoing site development including agreement management
  • Develop scalable, efficient tools and processes to improve delivery and communication for data center site development
