We are looking for a Design Manager to manage the engineering scope, schedule, and budget for greenfield, brownfield and retrofit engineering / design projects. This position will manage internal and external resources for the delivery of the Datacenter building, power, cooling, telecom, and controls infrastructure to align with Microsoft Corporation datacenter capacity roadmap for the Americas. The Datacenter Design Manager will be responsible for the facilitation and delivery of Microsoft’s industry-leading datacenter designs including the development of innovative technology and advanced concepts from Site Due Diligence through design development, permitting, construction, and the turnover to Operations. This role will provide design management, technical direction, decision-making and overall leadership for our datacenter designs. To be successful in this role the candidate will oversee the delivery of multiple, concurrent, complete Datacenter design solutions aligned with the scopes, schedules, and budgets of the projects. The Design Manager will engage with key MS stakeholder groups within Microsoft as well as outside vendors who specialize in datacenter architecture and engineering.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 2+ years experience in engineering, architecture, construction management, technical program management, OR equivalent experience.
  • 1+ year(s) of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • Background Check Requirements:
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 4+ years of experience engineering, architecture, construction management, technical program management OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • 2+ years of experience in project management, specific to design and construction for mission critical or datacenter environments.
