About The Position

Qualcomm is searching for engineering talent to set and drive future systems level vision and technical requirements for our Data Center Services Group (DCS). As a Data Center Design Engineer , you will lead designs for Qualcomm's Global DCs and impact other DC projects around the world. As an expert, you will serve a key role in the design of prototypical DC facilities, provide technical guidance, solve large scale implementation issues, and be responsible for architectural design requirements.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of IT-specific work experience with a Bachelor's degree. OR 9+ years of IT-specific work experience without a Bachelor's degree.
  • Must be able to work full time on-site in San Diego (5 days per week)

Nice To Haves

  • 4+ years of experience in Data Center operations design and implementation
  • Experience in architecting and specifying air and liquid cooling solutions at rack, row, room, and building levels
  • Experience with design software such as AutoCAD and Microsoft Visio
  • Experience specifying rack elevation plans, data center floor layouts and rack power distribution
  • Experience in partnering with co-location vendors, IT VARs, and implementation specialists
  • Working knowledge of networking/server/storage architecture and hardware, cable connections and types
  • Working knowledge of next generation data center technologies, including liquid cooling of server infrastructure
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to multi-task diverse issues in ambiguous conditions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write clear and accurate process documentation

Responsibilities

  • Design and plan data center physical deployments to meet business requirements for co-located and on-prem facilities.
  • Work as a team with project managers, IT infrastructure teams, colo/equipment vendors, and facilities groups to drive successful project completion and meet expected timelines.
  • Ensure designs and installations meet requirements while optimizing rack density/layout, power delivery, and cooling efficiency.
  • Consider the impact of design decisions on future operations and maintenance.
  • Globally assist with data center capacity planning, which is driven by QC's engineering and other business needs.
  • Collaborate with QC Facilities (MEP) staff and external design consultants through the design, construction, and commissioning processes for on-prem projects.
  • Some travel may be necessary for site assessments, internal design meetings, construction reviews, and interfacing with design consultants.
