About The Position

The Data Center Critical Facilities Technician at Amazon is responsible for the operation and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment within AWS data centers. This role involves troubleshooting facility events, performing maintenance tasks, and ensuring adherence to safety procedures while providing 24/7 shift coverage. The technician will work closely with a diverse team to support the infrastructure that keeps the cloud running efficiently.

Requirements

• 3+ years of maintenance experience on mechanical or electrical equipment.
• Experience operating electrical or mechanical systems in a mission-critical environment (e.g., Data Center, telecom).
• Current, active US Government Security Clearance of TS/SCI with Polygraph.

Nice To Haves

• Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or relevant discipline.
• Familiarity with building management systems (BMS/EPMS).
• 4+ years of Data Center Engineering Experience.
• Fundamental knowledge of network design and layout as well as low voltage (copper/fiber) cabling.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word) and web-based operational tools.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain mechanical and electrical equipment, including emergency generators and fire/life safety systems within the data center.
• Troubleshoot facility and rack-level events within internal SLAs.
• Perform limited maintenance tasks such as filter changes, HVAC PMs, and rack power installations.
• Provide support to Data Center Operations technicians.
• Conduct root cause analysis of equipment failures.
• Ensure compliance with all safety procedures during work.
• Take daily operational readings of mechanical and electrical equipment through routine rounds and log taking.
• Utilize internal CMMS to manage building workflows and spare part inventory.
• Supervise contractors performing servicing or preventive maintenance.
• Respond to off-hour emergency calls as part of the on-call rotation.
• Drive innovation while reducing operational costs in the facilities.
• Manipulate small wires and objects.
