About The Position

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a fast-paced technology company and a leader in the world of data centers. AWS is growing rapidly, and we are looking for a Senior Manager to join our expanding Infrastructure Operations team. The Senior Manager is one of our most senior management roles in the data center environment. In this role, you will be responsible for leading a large organization, managing department heads who own data center facility infrastructure including the operational availability of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems. The pace, scale, and growth of Amazon's data center platform will challenge you. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or above in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
  • 10+ years of relevant experience managing data center operations, facility engineering operations, critical environment facilities, data center build-outs and scaling, general manufacturing or similar
  • 6+ years of data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance experience, managing managers

Nice To Haves

  • Experience hiring, developing, and managing high-performing technical teams
  • Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Experience in Data Center Engineering Operations, with a deep understanding of electrical and mechanical data center infrastructure
  • Knowledge of information technology infrastructure domains such as compute server platforms, storage server platforms, server components, network devices, technologies and architectures, IT service delivery principles and best practices
  • Ability to operate independently as a manager of a geographically distributed Infrastructure Operations management team.

Responsibilities

  • Hiring, managing, and developing the operations management team including facilities managers, chief engineering managers and engineering operations technicians.
  • Attainment of organizational performance goals and objectives relating to safety, security, availability, scaling, and efficiency in support of our data center operations.
  • Planning and executing the Infrastructure Operations component of new AWS data center build-outs, new colocation build-outs, AWS data center expansions, and colocation expansions, including the entire mechanical/electrical/plumbing infrastructure to facilitate the daily operation.
  • Operation and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and controls systems for Amazon data centers to include preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and change management.
  • Vendor management of colocation data center services providers, if required, to meet or exceed contracted performance SLA's.
  • Oversight of a preventative maintenance system and the adherence to schedules, evaluation and performance of our infrastructure supporting the data center operations.
  • Experience in successful insourcing and/or outsourcing specific maintenance task balancing internal skillsets with frugality.
  • Safety, security, and availability incident response, incident management, and incident resolution.
  • Continuous improvement of operational processes, procedures, methods, and tools.
