About The Position

As a Senior Research Data Scientist within the Department of Neurology, you will spearhead the development and implementation of advanced analytical frameworks, ranging from distributed computing and machine learning to high-fidelity agent-based simulations. You will apply complex bioinformatics concepts to design and implement the analysis of large datasets of multi-omics data to decipher alterations in gene expression regulation in the context of neurodegenerative diseases. Responsibilities will include providing ad-hoc technical support, and building/modifying tools for the analysis of a diverse collection of biological data. specific projects and system maintenance. Primary tasks revolve around the development and maintenance of pipelines to process sequencing data, including whole-genome bisulfite sequencing, ATAC-seq and RNAseq, single-cell and spatial transcriptomics. Additional work includes creating new visual summaries of the data, downloading and piloting new analysis tools, working with the San Diego Super Computer Center and AWS for storage and processing needs, integrating with a team of molecular and cellular biologists and neuroscientists performing statistics-based analysis to achieve high-impact results. Projects may require some web-based tool development and some minor IT assistance maybe requested. Beyond technical execution you will play a pivotal role in mentoring junior analysts, facilitating knowledge transfer through training and scholarly publications, and developing open-source tools to empower the broader research community.
