About The Position

Forrest T. Jones & Company, Inc., and its affiliates (“FTJ”), provide insurance and insurance-related services to clients, corporations, employers and individuals. These services include providing benefits through innovative life and health insurance plans, financial services, and customized insurance products for niche markets. Position Summary The Data Analyst is responsible for analysis of data files, evaluation and validation of data, and business solution definition, technical recommendations, testing, reporting, and project execution in support of the organization’s initiatives and strategies. The Data Analyst reviews large sets of data, reorganizes data to go into various systems and assures that data is imported and exported accurately for business use and function.

  • Strong analytical skills required, including a thorough understanding of how to interpret customer business needs and translate them into application and operational requirements.
  • Excellent organization skills, including the proven ability to adapt to a dynamic project environment and manage multiple projects.
  • Identifies critical issues with ease.
  • Exhibits confidence and extensive knowledge when solving business problems.
  • Data collection: Gathers data from various sources, such as databases, surveys, flat files from business partners, and APIs.
  • Data cleaning/curation: Cleans and processes raw data to ensure accuracy and consistency by fixing errors and removing inconsistencies.
  • Data quality: Uses a mix of manual and automated methods to validate data, perform basic transformations, and adhere to enterprise schemas and standards. (Goal of 98+% accuracy rate.)
  • Data analysis: Uses statistical methods to analyze datasets, identify trends, and uncover meaningful patterns.
  • Collaboration: Works with other departments, such as IT, Operations, and Sales, to understand their data needs and support new business initiatives.
  • Data governance: Helps establish and maintain data integrity and governance standards for insurance administration data.
  • Requires college degree in business/computer science or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of MS-SQL, Azure SQL, Python, JetBrains, Jupyter.
  • 1-3 years of experience in the insurance industry, with strong knowledge of insurance terminology preferred, but not required.
  • 2+ years of experience in a similar business analyst support position is preferred but not required.
  • Understanding of business requirements and able to implement them in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

  • Works with large datasets to ensure completeness and transformation of data into various other formats.
  • Validates data coming from or going into various systems from departmental and client requests.
  • Serves as the liaison between internal business personnel and software development team.
  • Critically evaluates data gathered from multiple sources, reconciles conflicts, decomposes high-level information into details, abstracts up from low-level information to a general understanding, and distinguishes if data is complete and meets business needs.
  • Proactively communicates and collaborates with external and internal customers to analyze data needs to meet business requirements.
  • Drives and challenges business units on their assumptions of how they will successfully execute their plans.
  • Focuses on delivering value innovation in projects; solution and efficiency focused.
  • Collaborates with developers and subject matter experts to establish the technical vision and analyze tradeoffs between usability and performance needs.
  • Works with the Project and Portfolio Manager to plan projects to accomplish its goals within constraints such as time, cost, and agreed quality standards.
  • Works independently with subject matter experts and clients to define concepts and data reporting.
  • Work with the Project and Portfolio Manager to plan and schedule project timelines and milestones where applicable.
  • Develops and manages testing efforts.
  • Ensures data issues are identified, tracked, reported on and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Works with client personnel to identify required changes.
  • Communicates needed changes to development team.
