About The Position

The Office of URCW encourages and supports the establishment of collaborative partnerships between faculty mentors and enterprising students. We track student research and achievements, award travel grants, sponsor a freshmen program called Research Rookies, host a spring undergraduate research conference, manage summer research programs, promote the activities of the office, and put out a monthly newsletter. As a student employee, you will gain experience in management and organization while enhancing your data management, critical thinking, and research skills. This office assistant position involves managing several dynamic databases in Excel and Airtable that track mentored collaborations with faculty, student presentations, publications, competitions and conference participation, and students applying for Summer Research and underclassmen engaged in Research Rookies. This includes importing records, removing redundant records, tying records together across databases, organizing and analyzing the data, and creating summaries and reports.

Requirements

  • Applicants should be able to work independently, creatively, and pay careful attention to detail.
  • They should have proficiency using Excel.
  • Data analytic experience or coursework in excel preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, organize, and “clean up” databases.
  • Update databases each semester by following up with students and mentors.
  • Create periodic summaries of all office databases as requested.
  • (optionally) Track and encourage Research Rookies with weekly motivational communication and handling questions.
  • Clean up and prep databases for assessment.
  • Participate in the planning and hosting of our fall and spring research conferences.
  • Assist at campus recruitment events (eg. Open Houses and Freshmen Orientations) by helping setting up the display case and talking to prospective students and their parents about URCW programs they can look forward to engaging with.
  • Other duties on behalf of URCW as assigned.
