About The Position

This position is hybrid, two in-office days per week in Austin. Applicants from outside Texas must be willing to relocate within 30 days of hire. Data Analyst V (DA V) position performs work for the Provider Finance Department under supervision of the Director of Data Integration. This position performs highly complex (senior-level) data collection, reporting, and analysis to monitor, evaluate, and increase efficiencies for the Provider Finance Department. The DA V defines, develops, and implements data standards, data quality measures, analyzes data quality results, and implements necessary changes to ensure data quality improvement. This position also oversees, plans, directs, monitors, and guides others in the use of key analytic and technical functions relating to the Data Analyst team within the Data Integration team. The DA V works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in social science; business, including accounting and statistics; mathematics; physics; economics; health-related field; political science; or other closely related field.
  • At least three years of work and deep experience with data analytics.
  • Education and work experience can be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Health and Human Services data is preferred.
  • Experience with Medicaid and/or healthcare finance preferred.
  • Experience with cloud-based database(s) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Data Analysis and Visualization – Compiles, queries, and loads data points using SQL, and other query languages, into databases from a variety of source formats to support complex analyses. Cleans and prepares data, as necessary, for access to other analysts in their work products as well as data visualization. Provides guidance and mentorship on data use and best practices to analysts throughout the department.
  • Data Quality – Establishes and updates data quality metrics, recommending and implementing improvements to data quality associated with processes. Ensures data integrity by identifying data gaps, errors, anomalies, inconsistencies, and redundancies in the content, structure, and relationships within data; coordinates with stakeholders to improve data quality. Interprets results to identify significant differences in data. Identifies and interprets data patterns and trends and assesses data quality.
  • Reporting – Oversees development of high-quality written projects and reports; guides the selection of data management tools, the development of standards, usage guidelines, and procedures for those tools to be used by the rest of the team. Defines, develops, and implements data standards. Coordinates with others who collect, organize, analyze, and prepare materials in response to requests for information and reports specific to the data. Prepares concise, comprehensive technical reports to present and interpret data; makes recommendations on revisions to data collection methodologies. Develops software applications or programming to use for financial analysis, statistical modeling, and graphic analysis.
  • Coordination – Utilizes strong communication skills to explain PFD and Data Integration business processes and negotiate for information and resources needed to ensure successful initiatives. Consults with internal and external stakeholders regarding PFD data needs and requests. Coordinates with subject matter experts to ensure accuracy of reporting tools, workflows and reporting procedures.
  • Process Improvement – Provides feedback regarding systematic changes to improve data collection and align data infrastructure with business needs. Makes recommendation to improve efficiency and quality of data and reporting processes. Provides routine updates on the status of projects and initiatives.
  • Infrastructure Support – Oversees, plans, directs and monitors key analytic functions relating to the day-to-day activities of the Data Integration & PFD. Performs quality assurance and serve as a subject matter expert on data integrity, extraction, and compilation.
  • Performs other work as assigned or required to maintain and support the office and HHSC operations.
