About The Position

You will: Perform exploratory data analysis on large sets of data to extract practical insights that will help drive product, platform, and business decisions. Communicate data-driven insights and recommendations to key partners; go beyond observations to useful insights to form impactful product roadmap. Guide product managers on proper design & measurement of experiments for 2-sided marketplaces that drive iterative improvement on metrics. Promote statistical thinking and rigor in how we create metrics and analyses that inform our day-to-day and strategic decisions. Work closely with cross-functional teams of engineers, user researchers, product managers, product designers, and business decision-makers in launching impactful features in multiple domains. Utilize a strong business acumen: deep knowledge of how to design KPIs, diagnostic metrics and benchmarks, including how to set effective targets to drive optimal outcomes. Develop and articulate data stories and show them to your stakeholders. Mentor and coach other data analysts. Drive data self-service capabilities in the Product Team through training, documentation and more. Leverage generative AI and analytics-oriented AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, internal AI agents) to accelerate data exploration, automate routine analysis, and improve insight generation. Apply AI-assisted techniques such as semantic search, LLM-powered summarisation, anomaly detection, or clustering to uncover deeper insights in marketplace data. Contribute to Carousell’s company-wide AI transformation by embedding AI-driven workflows into analytics processes (documentation, QA, experiment monitoring, reporting, and investigations).

Requirements

  • Has 4+ years of relevant applied experience with a degree or higher in economics, psychology, computer science, statistics, or mathematics or another quantitative field.
  • Is an entrepreneurial problem solver & critical thinker, able to work autonomously & proactively, capable of taking on loosely defined problems and translating complex thinking into practical application for diverse audiences.
  • Is a communicative person who values building strong relationships with colleagues and partners and enjoys mentoring and teaching others.
  • Has deep expertise and working knowledge of statistics required for designing and evaluating statistical experiments
  • Is data-driven and passionate about solving problems through data & enable others using data in decision making
  • Is detail oriented and be able to work efficiently in a fast-paced team environment
  • Experience using generative AI tools to speed up analytical workflows (e.g., SQL generation, data summarisation, insight extraction, documentation).
  • Ability to evaluate when and how AI should be used responsibly, ensuring data quality, correctness, and compliance.

Nice To Haves

  • Solid experience in designing, implementing, evaluating statistical experiments (working knowledge of quasi-experiments is a plus) to help guide product owners in evaluating the success of their products
  • Solid experience with common analytics and visualisation tool (Looker, Tableau, SQL, Python, and R) for ad hoc analysis to extract insights
  • Possess deep subject matter expertise in at least one key area e.g. Causal Inference, Design of Experiments, Econometrics
  • Expertise using Big Data ecosystem tools e.g. BigQuery, Hadoop, Pyspark, Sqoop, or MLlib
  • Comfortable with distilling complicated analyses into an accessible format for non-technical audiences (e.g. white papers, presentations, documents)
  • Strong communication skills (fluent spoken English, visual presentation skills, effective written communication skills)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work in team and communicate with business people and other analysts
  • Significant demonstrated track record in analytics with thorough examples of experience
  • Commercial acumen to understand and define the business significance of various parcels of data and analysis
  • Must have demonstrated team working capability
  • Experience building small-scale AI-enabled analytics tools, automation scripts, or prototypes that improve productivity.
