We’re actively seeking a talented Data Analyst II to join our Life Policyholder Behavior Experience Studies team in Newport Beach, CA. This role follows a hybrid schedule of four days in the office (on-site). If you are not currently located near one of our offices, we offer comprehensive relocation benefits. As a Data Analyst II, you’ll move Pacific Life and your career forward by improving the quality and accessibility of data that supports actuarial assumptions and predictive models. You will join a team of four in the Consumer Markets Division, working alongside data scientists and actuaries with expertise in life insurance policyholder behavior.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field
  • 2+ years of experience in data analytics or a related field
  • Strong SQL skills, with the ability to write queries, interpret results, and assess data for accuracy and completeness
  • Proficiency in Python and/or R for data manipulation and analysis
  • Experience with Snowflake SQL or similar cloud data platforms
  • Attention to detail and a methodical approach to working with messy or complex data

Nice To Haves

  • Background in insurance, actuarial science, or financial services
  • Familiarity with data engineering concepts such as pipelines, ETL processes, or workflow orchestration

Responsibilities

  • Gather data from multiple source systems, clean and organize messy or incomplete datasets, and prepare them for use in actuarial models and analyses
  • Validate data quality by applying business context and domain knowledge, understanding enough of the actuarial workflow to recognize when something doesn’t look right
  • Support the development and maintenance of data pipelines and transformation logic, with an interest in growing these skills over time
  • Document data sources, definitions, and known issues to improve team knowledge and data reliability
  • Fulfill data requests from actuaries, data scientists, and other stakeholders by writing SQL queries against our Snowflake environment, assessing results for reasonableness, and identifying errors or anomalies before delivering outputs
  • Build lightweight visualizations and exploratory analyses using tools like Streamlit and Sigma to support team workflows and ad-hoc requests
