About The Position

The Dash 8 Simulator Check Airman at Ravn Alaska is responsible for ensuring the standardization, proficiency, and safety of flight crew members through effective training and evaluation. This role involves overseeing training and checking activities for the Dash 8 fleet, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards, and advocating for operational consistency and crew competency.

Requirements

  • Must possess a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must have a current FAA Airline Transport Pilot certificate with appropriate ratings to operate Dash 8 aircraft under Part 121.
  • Must have FAA approval as a Check Airman and demonstrated ability to evaluate and train on Dash 8 aircraft.
  • Must have a minimum of 1 year of experience as Pilot-in-Command (PIC) in 121 operations, or equivalent experience (preferred).
  • Must have completed or be willing to complete required FAA-approved Check Airman and Instructor Training.
  • Must have an in-depth knowledge of Dash 8-100/-300 systems, NPA Minimum Equipment List policies, and procedures.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and familiar with Trax systems.
  • Must not have any accidents, incidents, or Certificate Actions/Administrative Actions within the past 30 months.
  • Must have a valid FAA First Class Medical and a valid passport with the ability to travel internationally.
  • Must be able to fulfill the physical requirements of the position, including the ability to lift and maneuver up to 65 lbs.
  • Must be able to work all shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  • Must have a strong safety awareness and the ability to adhere to Safety Management Systems (SMS).
  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English fluently.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and conduct training and evaluation activities for flight crew members, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards.
  • Ensure standardization among flight crew members through comprehensive training and evaluation procedures.
  • Evaluate and certify the knowledge and skills of airmen via proficiency, competency, line, and special qualification checks.
  • Supervise landing currency re-establishment and initial operating experience (IOE) requirements in accordance with 14 CFR § 121.434.
  • Conduct simulator sessions and flight training under the FAA-approved training program.
  • Communicate deficiencies in training resources, effectiveness, or crew performance to the Director of Operations for resolution.
  • Ensure pilots meet competency standards before release from training and maintain those standards in line service.
  • Actively participate in the development and improvement of training programs to enhance operational consistency and crew competency.
  • Advocate for and enforce standards outlined in the General Operations Manual (GOM) and appropriate Flight Standards Manual (FSM).
