First-Year Data Science (FYDS) Peer Mentors are assigned an average of 10 incoming First-Year Data Science students with whom they meet individually for 30 minutes each week. FYDS Peer Mentors refer these students to appropriate campus resources, provide a mature and ethical viewpoint, assist with problems or issues (not from a counseling perspective), serve as a guide to ensure success, provide accurate information, and help students have a positive outlook on their journey to earning their data science degree. FYDS Peer Mentors also serve as a liaison between the FYDS staff and students as well as a positive role model and ambassador on behalf of the Data Science Program. FYDS Peer Mentors must attend all trainings, workshops, and special events. FYDS Peer Mentors must inform the FYDS program staff immediately of any issues or concerns with their assigned mentees and update student grades in a prompt and timely manner. FYDS Peer Mentors must also perform any additional duties as required.
