About The Position

New York Edge is seeking passionate and enthusiastic Activity Instructor- Dance Specialists for multiple openings across the 5 boroughs of New York City. As the largest provider of after school and community school programs in New York City and Wyandanch, Long Island, New York Edge serves over 25,000 students in grades K-12. The organization aims to bridge the opportunity gap faced by students in underinvested communities by enhancing academic performance, health and wellness, self-confidence, and leadership skills for success in life. The Dance Specialist role involves leading after school programming for children and teens at New York Edge program sites. This position is a dual reporting role, supporting both the curriculum and instruction department by designing lesson plans and implementing curricula, as well as assisting the program director by preparing activity materials and explaining principles, techniques, and safety procedures to student participants. The specialist will establish clear goals and objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate those goals and objectives to students.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • College credits and/or degrees are highly preferred
  • Must be knowledgeable and skilled in Dance and have at least one year experience
  • Experience working with children strongly preferred
  • This role requires you to be in-person at work.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in teaching dance to youth
  • Additional certifications in dance or education

Responsibilities

  • Build strong relationships with and among students
  • Be knowledgeable and skilled in one or more styles of dance and have prior experience successfully teaching and instructing youth in dance
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with program staff, school personnel, and parents
  • Teach or co-lead daily activities
  • Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students
  • Support the coordination of program events
  • Administer pre and post-assessments and evaluations for student activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
