There are still lots of open positions. Let's find the one that's right for you.
As a Dance Instructor at the Greater Austin YMCA, you will play a vital role in helping children develop essential skills through dance. Our introductory dance classes are designed to enhance flexibility, coordination, balance, and grace, utilizing techniques from various dance styles including ballet, creative movement, and gymnastics. Your primary responsibility will be to teach students not only the technical aspects of dance but also to instill self-confidence, self-discipline, poise, and grace. Most importantly, you will create an environment where students can enjoy the process of learning dance and have fun while doing it. The position requires availability for at least two evenings per week from Monday to Thursday, between 5:00 PM and 7:30 PM, as well as Saturday mornings from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. You will be responsible for setting up and taking down dance equipment, ensuring the dance studio is supervised, conducting warm-ups, and monitoring the placement of dancers within classes. Additionally, you will evaluate students and communicate with their parents as necessary, maintaining attendance records and choreographing dance routines for performances and events. You will also be expected to adhere to the YMCA of Austin's People Guidelines and Code of Ethics, complete necessary paperwork for incidents and accidents, and lead by example in promoting the Y's mission and values. This role is not just about teaching dance; it’s about being an ambassador for the YMCA's culture and community impact.
