About The Position

The Damage Prevention Technician is responsible for accurately locating and marking company facilities, including transmission and distribution systems, service lines, and other facilities. The role involves reading and interpreting system maps, working with company crews and outside contractors for re-marking to prevent damage, and conducting investigations of natural gas facility damages to determine root causes. The technician maintains working relationships with area excavators, municipalities, and company personnel responsible for excavation activities, ensuring the accuracy of company maps and records related to damage prevention. The position also requires completing and maintaining accurate records and reports to comply with company and regulatory requirements. Additional responsibilities include assisting other operations functions, holding stand-by duty, and addressing safety and encroachment issues. The technician is responsible for the safe operation and inspection of assigned company vehicles and equipment, and must adhere to company values and safety protocols.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two years of experience in natural gas, damage prevention activities, service, construction and maintenance, and/or pipeline operations.
  • Thorough understanding of company operations.
  • Must obtain and maintain minimum Operator Qualifications (OQs) and classroom training within six months.
  • Valid driver's license in accordance with company standards.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to utilize the company's internet/intranet and perform data entry tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately locates and marks company facilities.

  • May perform C&M and Service work when not performing damage prevention duties.
  • May be required to hold stand-by duty and work shifts, holidays, and weekends.
  • Identifies, addresses, and reports safety and encroachment issues.
  • Responsible for the safe operation and inspection of assigned vehicles and equipment.
  • Adheres to company values, strategies, policies, and procedures.
