Requirements

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain a professional demeanor with customers and coworkers.
  • Frequently lifts, reaches, and maneuvers items weighing up to 50 lbs; frequent bending, stooping, and reaching required.
  • Able to push and pull fully loaded pallet jacks and hand trucks; repetitive arm movement required for product preparation and display.
  • Requires manual dexterity and strong eye‑hand coordination.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Mental alertness required for safe and accurate task completion.
  • Knowledge of basic math, weights and measures, product varieties, perishability, product handling, sanitation, labeling, and department procedures.
  • Operates telephones, pallet jacks, hand trucks, knives, scissors, safety cutters, Sterilox machines, and cleaning equipment.
  • Uses computer software and electronic ordering devices.
  • May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays; schedule varies. Good attendance is essential.
  • Exposure to potential hazards associated with equipment and work aids.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with a strong emphasis on fast and friendly Customer Service.
  • Assists customers by making product suggestions.
  • Engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques through telephone calls, in‑store intercom announcements, and one-on-one customer interaction.
  • Answers incoming calls, resolves customer complaints appropriately, and escalates to the Store Director when needed.
  • Rotates and removes outdated or spoiled products; ensures work areas and department remain clean and organized.
  • Implements effective promotional and seasonal displays.
  • Ensures all merchandise is correctly priced, properly displayed, and shelves are clean and maintained.
  • Assists in other areas of the Grocery Department as requested.
  • Follows and maintains department standards and operational requirements.
  • Maintains working knowledge of company policies and guidelines as outlined in the Albertsons/Tom Thumb Employee Handbook.
  • Ensures all products in the department comply with proper code‑dating procedures.
  • Assists with physical inventory conducted every 6 months.
  • Controls inventory to ensure proper quantity, quality, and freshness; maintains division-directed inventory levels; stocks and rotates product regularly.
  • Supervises reclamation processing and maintains orderly, in-stock conditions in the back room and Dairy Department areas.
  • Controls shrink and overall department costs.
  • Utilizes proper product preparation techniques; operates equipment including pallet jacks, hand trucks, scissors, knives, safety cutters, and Sterilox machines.
  • Performs receiving duties including breaking down loads, verifying invoices, inspecting product quality, reporting shortages, stocking, and rotating product.
  • Adheres to product temperature, storage, and packaging guidelines; processes administrative paperwork and maintains accurate records.
  • Accurately completes and monitors daily log sheets, sales and labor reports, and other required documentation.
  • Ensures proper temperature levels are maintained for all dairy products.
  • Complies with retail labeling laws, state and federal regulations, company policies, and code-dating requirements.
  • Follows all workplace safety rules and regulations.
  • Ensures safety, cleanliness, and sanitation of the work area, coolers, displays, and equipment—including code-date compliance.
  • Implements emergency procedures as needed during equipment or software malfunctions.
  • Uses computer software and electronic ordering systems to order products.
  • Complies with company grooming standards and dress code.
  • Performs all job duties safely, accurately, and with honesty and integrity.
  • Performs additional duties as required.
