About The Position

The English Teacher is responsible for planning, organizing, developing and conducting a comprehensive English instructional program for high school students in grades 9-12. Newton North offers a variety of different English classes in our program, with particular emphasis on reflecting and celebrating the diversity of our students within the literature we teach. Full time English teachers at Newton North teach four classes at a variety of levels and at this time are seeking applicants with diverse experiences and/or a willingness to diversify their experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Ability to handle multitude of varying and complex issues
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to use technology effectively

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree or significant post-graduate coursework in subject area
  • Experience teaching high school students in English
  • Appropriate DESE teaching license

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement curriculum and instruction that supports the school and district-wide goals of culturally responsive instruction and universally designed learning.
  • Prepare and deliver instructional lessons with clear and measurable outcomes
  • Provide appropriate and effective learning experiences for students from a wide range of socio-economic levels and cultural backgrounds
  • Use a wide variety of teaching techniques to support student learning
  • Consult and implement strategies from the school’s BCAP (Building Curriculum Accommodation Plan) to provide students with appropriate supports
  • Design and demonstrate differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all students
  • Implement accommodations and curricular modifications as in educational plans (IEPs and 504)) and as needed to meet the learning needs of students
  • Use a variety of formal and informal assessments to accurately measure student progress, to modify further instruction, and to implement appropriate intervention and support.
  • Use a computer and associated technology to support student learning in and out of the classroom
  • Provide students with support (remediation and enrichment) using a variety of strategies
  • Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum, lesson and assessment design
  • Participate actively in faculty, department and team meetings
  • Set professional development goals and plans, and participate in professional development activities that promote reflection and growth
  • Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, parents, and the community
  • Follow safety procedures and written and verbal instructions
  • Demonstrate consistency, reliability and punctuality with attendance for supervision and instruction of the students
  • Use an online learning management system to post important materials/information about courses
  • Responsible for implementing “other job related duties” as needed.
