About The Position

The District Security Officer at the NOVA Center is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of students, staff, and visitors within the school environment. This full-time position involves monitoring security systems, responding to incidents, and collaborating with school administrators and law enforcement to maintain a secure atmosphere conducive to learning. The officer will also foster positive relationships with students and assist in conflict resolution, promoting a supportive educational environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 3 years of experience in security system monitoring and physical security preferred.
  • Must obtain CPI certification within six months of employment.
  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification required during employment.
  • Criminal background check required for hire.
  • 6-8 hours of annual training required.

Nice To Haves

  • Some college-level coursework in criminal justice or human services is desirable.
  • Bilingual oral and written communication skills preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor all district surveillance security cameras.
  • Interact with the district's unified security and communication systems.
  • Respond to and dispatch appropriate responders to events and incidents.
  • Perform mobile and foot patrols of district property.
  • Communicate security instructions and emergency procedures via mobile radio or cell phone.
  • Log incident reports and other assigned reports to standards.
  • Conduct light maintenance and service checks on security equipment.
  • Conduct daily building audits and document findings.
  • Patrol the school campus to deter and detect suspicious activities.
  • Respond to security incidents or emergencies on campus.
  • Enforce school rules and regulations, including dress code and visitor procedures.
  • Investigate incidents of misconduct or violations of school policies.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement and school resource officers as necessary.
  • Assist in developing and implementing emergency response plans.
  • Ensure safety equipment is maintained and functioning effectively.
  • Promote a sense of security and trust within the school community.
