The cytotechnologist performs microscopic studies of exfoliated, abraded, and aspirated cells from the human body. The cytotechnologist studies cell samples from various body sites to detect cellular changes indicative of cancer. The cytotechnologist follows approved policies and procedures for safe and efficient work practices, results reporting and documentation, and works closely with the pathologist in the communication of diagnostic findings. The cytotechnologist develops and maintains a strong understanding of the laboratory information system. The cytotechnologist maintains a strong working knowledge of sample preparation processes and assists when needed. This position performs non-gyn sample preparation and supervises gyn cytology.
