Position Summary: Under the direction of the Cytology Supervisor, the Cytotechnologist examines and evaluates cell samples for the presence or absence of normal/abnormal cellular patterns, inflammatory reactions, presence of microorganisms, and pre-malignant and malignant changes. Processes and prepares all specimens, such as bronchial washing/brushing, urine, body fluids, cerebrospinal fluids, fine needle aspiration, etc., for cytodiagnostic procedures. The Cytotech records cytology/histology correlations, determines specimens and tissues to be correlated, searches files and records, and assembles and prepares complete documentation for physician review. Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Strong recommendation from training or previous employment
  • Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
  • Must pass the slide review exam set by the department
  • Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
  • Must be willing to work variable shifts and overtime as required
  • Must be willing to testify in court regarding testing activities if subpoenaed
  • Must be ASCP registered and have a current California license
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System
  • Must be able to provide proof of work authorization

  • Previous experience in a hospital setting
  • Cytology training in a hospital setting
