About The Position

The Cytotechnologist position is a per diem role located at Evanston Hospital. The hourly pay range is $35.16 - $54.50, determined by the candidate's expertise and years of experience. The role requires overseeing daily operations within the assigned laboratory section, ensuring smooth workflow and accurate specimen processing. Responsibilities include reviewing documentation and reports, addressing abnormal results, troubleshooting technical issues, and resolving specimen handling problems. The Cytotechnologist acts as a primary resource for technical inquiries related to cytology procedures and specimen handling, evaluates and reports on various specimens, and collaborates with the Pathologist for adequate evaluation and sample preparation.

Requirements

  • Earn a Bachelor’s degree in Cytotechnology, Biology, or related field from a CAAHEP-accredited program.
  • Complete an accredited cytotechnology training program.
  • Cytotechnologist/Cytologist, CT(ASCP) certification or eligible within the first year of employment.
  • Minimum of 1 year of Cytotechnology experience preferred, but welcome new graduates.

  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge of traditional and modern laboratory methods.
  • Ability to distinguish color accurately for specimen analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations within the assigned laboratory section.
  • Ensure smooth workflow and accurate specimen processing.
  • Review documentation and reports, address abnormal results.
  • Troubleshoot technical and methodology issues.
  • Act as a primary resource for technical inquiries related to cytology procedures.
  • Accurately evaluate and report on gynecological, non-gynecological, and fine needle aspiration (FNA) specimens.
  • Match requisitions and slides, accurately label slides.
  • Correctly identify abnormal or high-risk cases and refer them to the Clinical Pathologist.
  • Ensure timely and accurate entry of results into the computer system.
  • Support FNA procedures by preparing necessary supplies and specimens.
  • Collaborate with the Pathologist for adequate evaluation and sample preparation.
  • Participate in proficiency testing and complete required tests accurately.
  • Review and discuss incorrectly diagnosed cases for continuous improvement.
  • Facilitate inventory management and resolve supply-related issues.
  • Ensure proper organization and maintenance of the work area.
