About The Position

Cytotechnologist Role Overview: Microscopically examine preparations for cytologic evaluation, correlating clinical information with morphologic findings to make a final diagnosis on negative gynecologic slides and render a microscopic assessment on abnormal gynecologic all non-gynecologic pending diagnosis by pathologist. Follow the laboratory’s pre-analytic and analytic procedures and maintain records of tests. Evaluate gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens submitted for cytologic evaluation and formulate primary and final diagnoses. Microscopically examine slides thoroughly and systematically, using established techniques to assure visualization of every location on slides Evaluate the adequacy of specimens for diagnostic purposes; consider quantity, quality, and preservation of cellular material; evaluate cytopathologic observations as it relates to specimen source and advise supervisor or pathologist on discrepancies. Formulate diagnoses by evaluating cell morphology and identifying variations from normal; compare the microscopic findings with recognized cytomorphologic criteria; refer to source materials and/or consult with co-workers or supervisor to resolve complex cases. Review patient clinical data and compare to microscopic findings. Formulate preliminary or final diagnoses using established terminology.
