Responsibilities

• Follows the laboratory's procedures for handling and processing all specimens for final diagnosis and sign-out by a cytotechnologist and/or a pathologist.
• Adheres to the laboratory's continuing quality control policies and documents all quality control activities and instrument maintenance performed.
• Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either documents and corrects the problem(s) or immediately notifies the supervisor.
• Maintains proper inventory of laboratory supplies, including stock rotation and evaluation of expiration dates.
• Trains others in the proper use of laboratory instrumentation, laboratory policy, and procedure.
• Ensures that the sample chain of custody remains unbroken and keeps information confidential by adhering to the terms of the employee non-disclosure agreement.
• Assumes responsibility for attending in-service and continuing education classes.
