About The Position
The Cytology Prep Assistant assists and supports the in the daily functions of the cytology laboratory. This position is required to prepare cytology slides from Gynecologic and Non Gynecologic Specimens for microscopic examination and diagnosis by Cytotechnologists and Pathologists; perform pre-analytical procedures including labeling, accessioning, specimen processing, laboratory waste disposal and decontamination of laboratory areas. The Cytology Prep Assistant works with hazardous and biohazardous substances, displeasing odors and materials, and variations in room noise and temperature. It requires the use of sharp instruments as well as hazardous chemicals such as xylene and formaldehyde. Independent analytic thinking and judgment by the Cytology Prep Assistant is vital. The tasks performed by the Cytology Prep Assistant directly impact the pathologist and patient care.
Requirements
- High School graduate or GED required.
Nice To Haves
- Laboratory experience preferred.
