About The Position

In this position, you will participate in BAE Systems' nationwide LEAP Internship & Co-op Program, where you will Learn, Engage, Apply, and Progress within the company. The LEAP Program will provide you with the opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals on impactful projects, engage in career development opportunities, and network with our business leaders and the other students in the program. BAE Systems is seeking a Cybersecurity Intern for Summer 2026 to be ON-SITE at Washington Navy Yard. Join our Cybersecurity Team supporting all facets of the Strategic Systems Program Command Information Officer’s Cybersecurity Work Force (CWF) program, become a member of a highly productive team, where each employee has the opportunity to grow their skills and work on rewarding system and network operations projects. The selected candidate will perform the following functions working closely with interdisciplinary teams in support of the US Navy's Strategic Systems Programs)—a program that keeps our nation safe with a credible sea-based nuclear deterrent: Support projects and tasks management that includes defining project objectives, creating roadmaps, and establishing timelines Identify potential risks, create mitigation strategies, and implement contingency plans Monitor performance, and report updates to stakeholders Assist with CWF strategic planning, implementation, and management. Help ensure CWF management policies and processes comply with DOD, DON, and organizational requirements Establish and collect metrics to monitor and validate CWF readiness including analysis of cyber workforce data to assess the status of positions identified, filled, and filled with qualified personnel Support tracking and reporting on CWF personnel qualifications and compliance

Requirements

  • Enrolled student at an accredited 4-year college / university having completed a minimum of two years (Sophomore) towards an Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, or other related degree
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Word, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Self-motivation and ability to work independently
  • Ability to interact with and effectively present information to peers, management, and customers
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with partners and government officials
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Effective organizational and time management skills
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills to identify issues, analyze data, and develop solutions

Nice To Haves

  • Experience hardening systems in accordance with DISA’s Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs)
  • The ability to understand and remediate vulnerabilities identified by CTOs, IVAMs, DISA STIGS, ACAS, and evaluate STIGs
  • Experience with PowerShell to automate tasks and manage systems
  • Experience with Windows Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Web, File and Print services
  • Experience conducting security control reviews and risk assessments
