About The Position

AECOM is seeking a Cybersecurity Intern to be based in Hunt Valley, MD. As a Cybersecurity Intern, you will support AECOM’s Technology Solutions Cybersecurity Team in delivering cybersecurity engineering services for federal and critical infrastructure clients. This role provides hands-on cybersecurity experience with Operational Technology (OT), Control Systems (CS), and Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) frameworks. This position offers practical experience in cybersecurity assessments, system architecture reviews, and infrastructure protection across complex IT/OT environments. This is a part-time or full-time internship position with flexible hours based on academic availability.

Requirements

  • Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, or related discipline and must have completed at least 1 year of study. Candidates who have recently graduated with a Bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with the Master’s degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.
  • Due to the nature of the work, U.S. Citizenship is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Foundational understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, segmentation, firewalls) preferred.
  • Exposure to cybersecurity principles such as risk assessment, vulnerability management, or system hardening.
  • Interest in infrastructure security, OT environments, or control systems is strongly preferred.
  • Strong analytical and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in supporting cybersecurity assessments of Operational Technology/Control Systems, including Building Automation Systems (BAS), physical access control, and other building control systems.
  • Support vulnerability identification and documentation across networked control system environments.
  • Assist SMEs in technical documentation development, requirements analysis, specification reviews, and engineering reviews.
  • Participate in research related to emerging threats impacting critical infrastructure and OT environments.
  • Support development of cybersecurity deliverables aligned with cybersecurity frameworks (e.g., RMF, NIST, ISO).
  • Contribute to cybersecurity design considerations for infrastructure modernization efforts.
