About The Position

Job Goal: To provide high-level technical support and leadership in the planning, implementation, and maintaining of the district's network and systems security operations. Qualifications: A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in computer science/information systems or a closely related field A minimum of 2 years of experience related to IT Security Administration At a minimum of 10 years of strong technical experience directly related to computer hardware and software systems. FSLA Status: Exempt Reports To: Technology Director or designee Background Check Required : ( Ala. Code §§ 16-22A-5) Upon offer of employment, employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Background checks may not be more than ten (10) years old.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in computer science/information systems or a closely related field
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience related to IT Security Administration
  • At a minimum of 10 years of strong technical experience directly related to computer hardware and software systems.
  • Experience designing secure networks, systems, and application architectures
  • Knowledge of Disaster Recovery, computer forensic tools, technology, and methods
  • Experience planning, researching, and developing security policies, standards, and procedures
  • Expertise in anti-virus software, intrusion detection, firewalls, and content filtering
  • Knowledge of risk assessment tools, technologies, and methods
  • Expertise in designing secure networks, systems, and application architectures
  • Experience in system administration, supporting multiple platforms and applications
  • Expertise with malicious code and anti-virus software identification
  • Experience with Endpoint security solutions, including file integrity monitoring and data loss prevention
  • Experience with AWS and cloud platform as a service (PaaS) security
  • Experience with automating security testing tools
  • Ability to communicate network security issues to the director and superintendent.
  • Excellent Interpersonal and communication skills
  • Physical mobility to exert up to 20 pounds occasionally and up to 10 pounds frequently

Responsibilities

  • Safeguards information system assets by identifying and solving potential and actual security problems.
  • Create efficiency and standardization in district technology procedures to ensure stable and secure device operation for students and staff.
  • Analyzes, assesses, and mitigates vulnerabilities in systems and servers to ensure optimal performance and continuous availability of services to authorized users in support of digital learning and student instruction.
  • Assists in the development of and carries out information security plans and policies.
  • Develops strategies to respond to and recover from a security breach.
  • Develops or implements open-source/third-party tools to assist in the detection, prevention, and analysis of security threats.
  • Communicates effectively with assigned staff to provide direction, feedback, and expertise regarding the mitigation of security vulnerabilities and assists as needed in the resolution of emergencies
  • Maintains Incident Response Plan, Business Continuity Plan, and Risk Management Program and communicates duties and procedures to appropriate stakeholders and staff members.
  • Review findings with the security team to determine acceptable levels of risk.
  • Monitors networks and systems for security breaches, through the use of software that detects intrusions and anomalous system behavior.
  • Investigate security breaches.
  • Facilitates high-quality professional development for district staff on cyber security awareness; prepares, arranges, and conducts a wide variety of training activities and works with staff members in groups or individually to provide guidance, demonstrate best practices, and refine knowledge and skills.
  • Establishes standardized guidelines and solutions for the security of personal computer network services, including but not limited to remote access, file, print, application, network, and active directory services.
  • Monitors the operational security posture of the district, conducting reviews of security controls, auditing user permissions, and contributing to the successful completion of all security goals.
  • Participates in the evaluation and selection of network hardware and software, including routers, switches, network management software, and other equipment and supplies.
  • Works with the Director of Technology, the Coordinator of Technology the Network and Systems staff, and other MCS staff to plan and implement new technology initiatives through the network infrastructure.
  • Remains current on technology trends and advancements to proactively provide users with information regarding technological and network capability developments, procedure modifications, and other related changes; researches and recommends solutions, equipment, and resources as applicable to MCS needs.
  • Works on-call for after-hour security, network, and systems issues.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
