Cybersecurity Engineer / Active Secret

About The Position

Peraton is currently seeking to hire an experienced Cybersecurity Engineer (TSCE). We are seeking a Cybersecurity Engineer to provide hands-on support for TSCE baselines across both classified and unclassified environments. This role spans cyber hygiene, vulnerability management, system engineering, waterfront support, and RMF accreditation activities in support of fleet operations. Location: DamNeck, VA Overview The Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division Dam Neck Activity (DNA) supports critical U.S. Navy and Joint Forces missions, including the Total Ship Computing Environment (TSCE), National Cyber Range Complex, NAVSEA Red Team operations, and advanced training systems. As cyber threats continue to evolve across tactical and non-tactical systems, this role focuses on engineering-driven cybersecurity—moving beyond compliance to ensure systems are secure, resilient, and mission-ready across their full lifecycle.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in: Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering and 5+ years of cybersecurity engineering experience
  • High School Diploma + 10 years relevant experience
  • 5+ years of cybersecurity engineering experience
  • IAT Level III Certification (DoD 8570/8140 compliant)
  • DoD cybersecurity policies and military system specifications
  • Risk Management Framework implementation and ATO processes
  • TSCE and naval systems environments
  • STIG implementation and compliance
  • Vulnerability scanning (ACAS) and remediation
  • Linux and Windows system patching and hardening
  • Security tools and technologies, including: Firewalls, IDS/IPS, Cross Domain Solutions (CDS), eMASS, Endpoint Security Solutions (ESS)
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Active Secret Clearance (DoD)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting Littoral Combat Ships (LCS) or similar naval platforms
  • Familiarity with shipboard installation and configuration processes
  • Experience with Splunk, VMware, and enterprise cyber operations tools

Responsibilities

  • Perform quarterly STIG and SCAP assessments and ongoing cyber hygiene activities
  • Conduct vulnerability scans using tools such as ACAS
  • Analyze vulnerabilities and recommend corrective actions, including automated remediation scripting
  • Ensure remediation of critical/high vulnerabilities within DoD-mandated timelines (≤30 days)
  • Execute patch management across all supported assets and environments
  • Support TSCE assets including: Windows Server & Workstations Red Hat Enterprise Linux VMware environments (Workstation, Aria) Splunk SIEM Cisco & Alcatel network devices
  • Maintain system compliance across CECIL and LWEC environments
  • Perform daily, monthly, and quarterly system maintenance checks
  • System Manager within Vulnerability Remediation Asset Manager (VRAM)
  • Maintain asset inventories, baseline images, and cyber directive responses
  • Track, document, and report remediation activities and system changes
  • Provide direct shipboard (on-hull) cyber engineering support for Littoral Combat Ships
  • Troubleshoot operational issues and support sailors with TSCE systems
  • Assist with shipboard configuration validation and testing after patches/upgrades
  • Support execution of Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) and system upgrades
  • Support Authorization to Operate (ATO) and Authority to Shipboard Review (ASR) processes
  • Prepare and validate security documentation, risk assessments, and artifacts
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to resolve findings and maintain compliance
  • Develop and update: Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) Ship Installation Plans (SIPs)
  • Identify deficiencies and provide detailed recommendations for improvement
