About The Position

Internships at UnitedHealth Group provide a hands-on view of a rapidly evolving, incredibly challenging marketplace of ideas, products, and services. Interns will work alongside some of the smartest people in the business on assignments that matter, contributing to the advancement of health equity on a global scale. The Cybersecurity Development Program (CsDP) is a global talent development program designed to cultivate enterprise talent in support of security needs. The summer internship program offers a 10-week experience that includes hands-on security work, social responsibility, networking, learning, and social events. Interns will gain invaluable experience in various domains, mentoring from technology leaders, and collaboration opportunities. The program creates a cohort structure that provides a more personalized employment experience, increasing engagement beyond that of a traditional hire.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Programming, Network Administration, Database Management, Data, or other technology-related fields.
  • Currently enrolled in a university, obtaining a bachelor's or master's degree from an accredited college/university.
  • Foundational understanding of networking, operating systems, and information security principles.
  • Proven solid analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proven effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced, evolving cybersecurity landscape.
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with scripting or programming (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell).
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001, MITRE ATT&CK).
  • Basic understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and their security features.
  • Exposure to security tools such as Wireshark, Nmap, Burp Suite, Splunk, or Nessus.
  • Participation in Capture the Flag (CTF) competitions, cybersecurity clubs, or personal security projects.
  • Interest or coursework in areas such as Red/Blue Teaming, IAM, Threat Intelligence, GRC, Cloud Security, Application Security.
