About The Position

The Cyber Security Engineer II supports daily cybersecurity operations across assigned programs by implementing and maintaining robust security engineering practices. Leveraging the Risk Management Framework (RMF), this role evaluates both new and existing systems to define technical requirements and integrates cybersecurity controls to ensure compliance with Department of Defense (DoD) standards, including ATC, ATO, and ATT. The engineer participates in Security Test and Evaluation (ST&E) activities, conducts product security assessments, and communicates identified risks and mitigation strategies in clear business terms. Additionally, this position is responsible for researching emerging threats, evaluating a variety of cybersecurity tools and technologies, and developing solutions to moderately complex technical challenges, all while contributing to the successful achievement of project milestones and minimizing impacts on schedules and resources.

Requirements

  • Hold an accredited bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity, computer science, software engineering, or other related engineering degrees with a cumulative GPA of over 3.2 and with a minimum of 2 years of experience in cybersecurity.
  • Hold an accredited master's degree in cybersecurity, computer science, software engineering, or other related engineering degrees with a cumulative GPA of over 3.2.
  • 3 or more years in IT or Cyber Engineering.
  • Understanding of the Risk Management Framework (RMF) and ability to develop RMF artifacts.
  • Familiarity with NIST, DoD, CNSSI, and NSTSSM cybersecurity regulations and security controls (e.g., NIST 800 53, CNSSI 1253).
  • Ability to perform system categorization and derive cybersecurity requirements.
  • Knowledge of system security architecture and secure system design methodologies.
  • Experience with security hardening across software, firmware, and hardware.
  • Capability to participate in Security Test & Evaluation (ST&E), including planning, execution, and reporting.
  • Ability to perform product security assessments, threat/vulnerability analysis, and recommend mitigations.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity tools such as Nessus/Tenable, NMAP, SIEM platforms, NMS, incident response tools, and vulnerability management solutions.
  • Strong computer skills and understanding of basic electrical, mechanical, optical, or software engineering principles.
  • Strong analytical skills for evaluating cybersecurity risks, technical alternatives, and design concepts.
  • Ability to approach technical problems methodically and develop solutions to moderately complex issues.
  • Capability to manage multiple priorities and operate with limited supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interfacing with engineering teams and customers.

Responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day Cyber Security Engineering operations across assigned programs.
  • Contribute to cybersecurity risk mitigation activities using the Risk Management Framework (RMF).
  • Evaluate new and existing systems and define software, firmware, and hardware requirements from a systems engineering perspective.
  • Ensure cybersecurity controls are integrated into system designs to meet Department of Defense (DoD) security posture requirements, including Authority to Connect (ATC), Authority to Operate (ATO), and Authority to Test (ATT).
  • Participate in Security Test and Evaluation (ST&E), including test preparation, execution, results analysis, and report development.
  • Perform product security assessments and communicate risks and recommend mitigations in clear business terms.
  • Research and assess emerging cybersecurity threats, technologies, and best practices.
  • Evaluate and test cybersecurity tools and capabilities, including vulnerability management solutions, Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) platforms, Network Management Systems (NMS), incident response tools, disaster recovery technologies, and security operations capabilities.
  • Develop solutions to moderately complex technical problems within project constraints.
  • Support the achievement of project milestones; errors may impact schedules and resource allocation.
