About The Position

The Cyber Defense Specialist role at Citizens Bank is an individual contributor position focused on security monitoring and incident response within the Cyber Threat Detection (CTD) team. This position requires a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating security threats, ensuring the protection of company assets through effective monitoring and analysis of security incidents. The role operates on a 1st shift schedule from Wednesday to Saturday, emphasizing collaboration with various Cyber Defense pillars to maintain a robust security posture.

Requirements

• 1 or more years of security industry experience, preferably in a Security Operations Center (SOC) environment.
• Experience with Security Information and Event Management Tools (e.g., Arcsight, Splunk).
• Knowledge of Intrusion Prevention/Detection Tools (e.g., FirePower, McAfee, PaloAlto).
• Familiarity with Database Security Tools (e.g., Guardium, jSonar) and Data Loss Prevention Tools (e.g., Symantec, Triton).
• Experience with Firewalls (e.g., Cisco, Palo Alto, Check Point) and Application Security Tools (e.g., Web Application Firewalls).
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
• Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Nice To Haves

• A combination of relevant industry certifications (e.g., Net+, Sec+, CEH, Pentest+, AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, Microsoft Azure Fundamentals).

Responsibilities

• Perform ongoing monitoring and threat analysis, analyzing logs, net flow data, and packet capture to protect against threats.
• Investigate potential IT security incidents and perform remediation or escalate incidents to appropriate Incident Response staff.
• Assess threat and vulnerability information from all sources and apply applicable mitigation techniques.
• Use information from cyber security tools to assess potential security impacts and present recommendations to management.
• Represent Cyber Defense on security or risk-related initiatives requiring technical skills and security expertise.
• Identify new and better ways for the team to enhance processes, procedures, and alerting capabilities.
