RTX BBN Technologies is looking for an experienced Cyber Capability Research Engineer to develop systems and software to deter and defeat our Nation's adversaries. At RTX BBN Technologies, we develop creative cyber solutions for our customers' most critical, mission-focused need. This role will have the opportunity to create, contribute to, and grow cutting-edge research and development projects and advanced state-of-the-art technology. Join our elite team of cyberspace experts, where the work is always challenging and can change vastly from one project to the next. One project can take 6 to 18 months, or longer, and consist of small teams requiring close interaction with customers and other team members.

  • Perform advanced software development in C, with an emphasis on low-level operations.
  • Architect software and systems across a variety of architectures and operating systems.
  • Analyze systems to understand how they work and what happens when they break.
  • Develop unique networking protocols and communication schemes.
  • Operationalize our code by thoroughly testing, documenting, and integrating with sponsor systems.
  • Travel up to 15%
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM), specifically in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations. Advanced Degrees would require a minimum 3 years of experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of C Programming experience.
  • Active Secret Security Clearance.
  • Programming Skills in C++, Rust, Java, Python, or other languages.
  • Experience with system architecture design, prototyping, and technical project leadership.
  • Experience with assembly language (x86/64, ARM, PPC, MIPS, etc.).
  • Understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP stacks, wire-level protocols, RF communications, BGP, etc.).
  • OS kernel development experience (e.g., Windows, Linux, MacOS, Android).
  • Reverse engineering skills using tools such as IDA/Ghidra/BinaryNinja.
  • Capture the Flag (CTF) experience.
  • Authored papers and proposals.
