The Structural Steel, Welding, Bolting Inspector is responsible for assisting engineers by performing a variety of testing, project specific observations and report data. The Building & Construction team provides assurance, testing, inspection, and certification services and building science solutions to deliver Total Quality Assurance to the built environment. The team offers the architectural, engineering and construction (A/E/C) industry with a full suite of capabilities both in the lab and on site.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2-5+ years of welding, QC, or inspection of structural steel experience is required.
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must successfully pass pre-employment background and Motor Vehicle check.
  • Ability to climb ladders, bend, crawl, push and pull, stretch, sit, walk and stand for extended periods of time
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record (required)
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs
  • Reliable transportation to and from the office.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail.
  • Must be professional in appearance and dress.
  • Must be punctual and dependable.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills are essential.

Nice To Haves

  • CWI certification with D1.1 experience
  • ICC S1 Structural Bolting and S2 Structural Welding certifications are preferred
  • Liquid Penetrant and Mag Particle experience is preferred
  • UTSW experience is preferred
  • MT, PT, UT and/or RT Certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Will work from construction drawings, specifications, diagrams, ASTM standards, schematics and specific verbal and written instructions.
  • Neatly and accurately complete all required paperwork, including daily reports, test reports and timesheets – in a timely manner
  • Record and reports test results after performing mathematical calculations, making graphical solutions and graphical representations
  • Communicate orally and in writing with engineers and staff members, agency representatives, contractors and business and property owners
  • Perform maintenance/cleaning of equipment and calibration and adjustments as needed
  • Adhere to construction site safety guidelines and promotes a safe working environment
  • Inspection of construction operations
