About The Position

This is a full-time position within the Cardiovascular Institute (CVI) at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center (CNRVMC). The role involves assisting physicians with direct patient care during catheterization or interventional procedures in the scrub, circulator, and monitor positions. The CVT I delivers quality service through a team-oriented, collaborative approach to care for adult and geriatric patients, providing direct assistance to physicians and patients to achieve optimum outcomes. The position requires preparing patients and technically advanced equipment for advanced invasive procedures, scrubbing and assisting physicians, advising on procedural strategies and supplies, and assisting in emergent conditions. The CVT I ensures patient, physician, and team needs are met during procedures, serves as a patient advocate, and obtains and sets up procedural supplies and equipment. The role also involves operating x-ray equipment and administering medication under supervision, using advanced critical thinking skills for emergencies, and monitoring/interpreting EKG and hemodynamics. Data input for patient history, labs, case proceedings, equipment/supplies, documentation for various databases, moderate sedation, pain management, and medication administration is also a key part of the role. Advanced data manipulation for value areas, shunt calculation, and cardiac outputs in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, as well as assisting with electrophysiology studies and ablations, are also responsibilities. The CVT I participates in specific patient care functions like transport, sheath removal, and closure site care, and contributes to informed consent and patient education. The role also involves contributing to Carilion Clinic's scorecard, performance improvement activities, and mission, and actively participating in obtaining desired service line outcomes.

Requirements

  • Graduate of Allied Health Profession School (RTR, RT)
  • Current Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist, RCIS or Registered Cardiovascular Electrophysiology Specialist, RCES or Radiologic Technologist, Registered, RT(R), or Registered Respiratory Therapist, RRT or Certified Respiratory Therapist, CRT.
  • AHS BLS-HCP required.
  • Must successfully complete AHA ACLS within six months of hire date and maintain current status.
  • Effective interpersonal, communication, and teamworking skills required.
  • Must successfully complete orientation and competency validation for position.

Nice To Haves

  • Cardiac Cath Lab or Interventional Radiology or Electrophysiology experience preferred.

  • Inputs data from patient history, labs, and current case proceedings including equipment/supplies and documentation for various databases, moderate sedation, pain management, and medication administration.
  • Performs advanced data manipulation to obtain value areas, shunt calculation, and cardiac outputs in the Cardiac Catherization Laboratory.
  • Performs advanced data manipulation to assist with electrophysiology studies and ablations.
  • Participates as part of procedure team to provide specific patient care functions such as transport, sheath removal, closure site care, etc.
  • Participates in providing and assuring informed consent and patient education.
  • Contributes to Carilion Clinic's scorecard, performance improvement activities, and mission.
  • Actively participates in obtaining desired service line outcome.
