About The Position

A cardiovascular surgical program in the Sanford area is seeking an experienced CVOR Registered Nurse to join a high-acuity operating room team supporting open-heart, vascular, and complex cardiothoracic procedures. The CVOR RN plays a crucial role in pre-operative preparation, intraoperative care, and surgical safety processes, supporting approximately 10–15 open-heart cases per month and transitioning to general OR assignments when not in a cardiac room. This position is ideal for candidates with strong cardiovascular surgical experience who thrive in a collaborative, precision focused operating room environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of recent acute-care CVOR RN experience.
  • Active Florida RN license (or Compact license with FL endorsement within 60 days).
  • Nursing Diploma or Associate Degree.
  • BLS within 30 days of hire.
  • ACLS within 6 months.
  • PALS/ENPC within 6 months.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with open-heart, CABG, valve surgery, and complex cardiovascular cases.
  • Strong critical thinking skills, procedural accuracy, and calm performance in high-stress OR environments.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive pre-operative assessment and education for cardiovascular surgery patients.
  • Prepare patients for surgery, including IV initiation, medication administration, and surgical site verification.
  • Participate in all safety protocols: time-outs, briefings, universal protocol, and debriefing.
  • Serve as a key intraoperative RN, supporting surgeons, anesthesia, and surgical technologists during CVOR procedures.
  • Monitor patient status throughout the perioperative continuum and document accurately.
  • Respond effectively to intraoperative emergencies and rapidly changing patient conditions.
  • Deliver high-quality, evidence-based care aligned with CVOR best practices.
  • Educate patients and families about surgical expectations, recovery processes, and follow-up requirements.
  • Support surgical workflow improvements, equipment readiness, and sterile technique compliance. Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure safe, efficient operations and excellent patient experience.
