Schedule: Full time Shift : Days Location: 3100 East Fletcher Avenue Tampa, Florida 33613 The community you'll be caring for: AdventHealth Tampa AdventHealth Tampa, a faith-based not-for-profit 626-bed tertiary-level acute care hospital located in the uptown district of Tampa, Florida, specializes in advanced cardiovascular medicine, neuroscience and neurology, digestive health, orthopedics, womens services, pediatrics, oncology, endocrinology, bariatrics, wound healing, sleep medicine and general surgery including minimally invasive and robot-assisted procedures. GME programs on the hospital campus currently include general surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, internal medicine and transitional year. AdventHealth Tampa is home to the renowned AdventHealth Pepin Heart Institute, a recognized leader in cardiovascular disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment and leading-edge research caring for Tampa Bays hearts for over 35 years. The Kiran C. Patel Research Institute, also located at AdventHealth Tampa, leads the way in clinical and academic research in the areas of neuroscience, cardiovascular medicine, advanced surgery and more contributing valuable knowledge that leads to tomorrows cures for conditions such as heart failure, cancer and other diseases. The role you'll contribute: The Surgical First Assistant provides aid in exposure, hemostasis, closure, and other intraoperative technical functions that help the surgeon carry out a safe operation with optimal results for the patient. The Surgical First Assistant also performs pre-operative and post-operative duties to better facilitate proper patient care. These functions are performed during the operation under the direction and supervision of the surgeon and in accordance with hospital policy and appropriate laws and regulations. Collaborates as part of the OR team to ensure efficient and timely room set up and turnover. Functions in the role of Surgical Scrub as needed for the department. Must maintain AdventHealth medical staff Allied Health privileges in good standing. The value you'll bring to the team: Utilizes physician preference cards to set up operating suites. May update cards appropriately, when instructed. Determines appropriate surgical equipment and supplies, based on physicians preference. Achieves temporary and permanent hemostasis by applying appropriate techniques. Assists with body plane closures, wound dressing applications, and securing drainage systems. Provides visualization for operative sites by applying appropriate methods, which includes tissue manipulation, retraction, sponging, suction, and irrigation. Handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. Demonstrates an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. Has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field.

Requirements

High School Grad or Equiv Required
2 years
Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) Required and
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - Cert Preferred and
Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) Required or
Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) Required
Current certification by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) as a Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA), or through the National Commission for the Certification of Surgical Assistants as a Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA), or American Board of Surgical Assistants (ABSA). In lieu of certification, previous documented experience as a surgeon. Required.
