The CVOR Certified Surgical Tech position is full-time, working evenings from 2:30pm to 11pm, Monday through Friday, with call required. The position requires CST and BLS certifications and prefers candidates with 2+ years of CV (open heart) experience. Located in the heart of the Texas Medical Center, this role is part of the HVI OR team, known for world-class clinical expertise, patient-centered care, leading edge technology, and innovation.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a Surgical Technologist Program.
  • Certified in Basic Life Support.
  • Current Certification as a Surgical Technologist by the National Board of Surgical Technology & Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT).
  • New Grad <1 year Surg Tech I = 1 year Surg Tech II = 2-4 years Surg Tech III = 5+ years.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of CV (open heart) experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert perioperative patient care through the use of equipment and instrumentation.
  • Function as a scrub assistant to the physician performing operative and/or invasive procedures.
  • Work under the direction of a Registered Nurse and as outlined in the Surgical Technologist Skills Inventory.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient served.
  • Support goals of unit and facilitate unit operations by serving as a resource specialist for an assigned operating room area/specialty service.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of aseptic technique, advanced surgical techniques, and patient care techniques for all clients undergoing elective and emergency situations.
  • Verify functioning and adequate availability of supplies/instruments/equipment prior to the surgical procedure.
  • Ensure safe care to patients, staff, and visitors; adhere to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Promote individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education.
  • Serve as preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.
  • Create compassionate and personalized experiences for every member of the community.
  • Model Memorial Hermann’s service standards by providing safe, caring, personalized, and efficient experiences.
