About The Position

Customs Specialist - Decatur, IL This is an exempt level position. Position Summary: Job Responsibilities: Supports Customs & Excise Trade Compliance ( CETC) Special Project Lead on a variety of projects Drives the regional implementation of CETC special projects Supports external Customs audits Deliver training for colleagues who are not customs specialists including designing educational materials for employees. Serve as a SME for the team. Take on the responsibility of coordinating the training for the team, which will include several new hires. Host office hours sessions to address questions in key customs topics Identify opportunities for CETC special projects across ADM Evaluate ADM’s Commercial Compliance controls to identify potential areas for auditing, training and other communications. Develop audit programs to validate compliance standards. Conduct internal reviews to evaluate effectiveness of compliance efforts/programs to identify deficiencies and subsequent corrective measures. Optimizes customs activities by working with other departments Oversees compliance with export control Evaluate complex international business requirements and product strategies to ensure compatibility with CETC requirements. Design and maintain comprehensive CETC processes, written policies, and standard work instructions to support the ADM’s international trade activities Country of Origin (CoO) Management of CoO data in SAP GTS (where deployed) Determination and maintenance of CoO dataset Training stakeholders on CoO Soft audits of businesses Resolution of historic issues where identified Customs Brokers Maintain master list of customs brokers used by the business Obtain and analyze declaration data from brokers on a regular basis Identify risks and opportunities in the broker data set Drive performance management sessions with key brokers Maintain an up-to-date set of Powers of Attorney Required Skills: Has a strong knowledge of customs legislation with a focus on North America (inc Canada) Has proven experience in trade compliance and internal and external auditing Is familiar with origin determination Has good experience with SAP GTS and/or other customs automation solutions Good working knowledge of HS classification, Free Trade Agreement qualification, operation of customs reliefs and customs valuation. Works accurately Is a critical thinker Is an efficient communicator Is familiar with stakeholder management Has a proactive attitude Has extensive digital literacy Has professional English language skills Education Requirements: The CS has a relevant university degree or higher, supplemented by relevant professional training. Required Experience: The CS has at least 7 years active experience as a customs specialist, working in a large or medium-sized company. Previous roles should include the filing of customs and excise declarations, internal auditing, data processing, and reporting. Additional information: The CS will be working in the corporate Customs & Excise Trade Compliance function of the ADM organization. The CS reports to the CETC Special Project Lead (US).
