This position has a base compensation range of $85,000.00 to $98,000.00. Salary determination considers your skills, experience, job location, internal pay equity and job architecture. The Customs Brokerage Supervisor will oversee the Customs Brokerage team or a portion of the team for his/her assigned department under the direct supervision of the Customs Brokerage Manager and be responsible for that territories product compliance, levels of working capital, quality outcomes to internal and external stakeholders

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Minimum five years of experience in a customs brokerage agent position
  • Organizational skills

  • Adaptable / flexible to high-pressured environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Email, and Internet
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English in order to present information to customers, management, and subordinates in a professional setting
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as freight rates, discounts, and other percentages
  • Analytical skills / problem-solving ability
  • Leadership skills – able to train, coach, and develop subordinates

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred to have either an Associate’s Degree (A.A.) from a two-year college or Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience will be considered in lieu of educational requirement
  • Two years of prior experience in a supervisory role preferred
  • Completion of any industry related course is an asset, especially work towards brokerage license
  • Proficient in world geography, shipping documentation, and Incoterms preferred

Responsibilities

  • Supervises Customs Brokerage department
  • Ensures all product operations within assigned department are compliant to internal HWL policies, procedures and external government regulations
  • Performs timely and accurate costing, revenue estimates, rating, invoicing, and correction (where necessary) to invoices, process, or people to minimize WIP, DSO, and Bad Debt
  • Ensures product operations within assigned department meet internal HWL and external customer quality goals per Customer Standard Operating Procedure (CSOP) using effective procurement and routing
  • Meets volume and top line product revenue growth targets for assigned department
  • Initiates and leads yield improvement process for business below or above target levels
  • Ensures all financial and quality controls and audits are completed accurately and on-time
  • Works with Account Management and Sales to effectively explain HWL product analytics including trend drivers and to develop business recommendations to customers to reduce costs and improve reliability
  • Claims ownership of and professionally oversees customer escalations in conjunction with Account Management or Sales
  • Fills the role of product subject matter expert when communicating with customers in a variety of settings
  • Leads or participates in corrective actions as necessary to mitigate the likelihood of revenue or profit loss when business is at risk
  • Ensures performance goals are set, performance is measured, and regular informal and formal feedback is provided to direct and indirect reports within assigned department
  • Performs accurate and timely product budgeting and forecasting within assigned product department
  • Monitors and assists in managing staffing levels and workload allocation across product teams within assigned department. This includes talent acquisition, furloughing, re-purposing, re-shifting, demotion, promotion, and severance
  • Develop team and individuals within the team.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
